This year I am participating in the One Foot Forward Challenge to raise money for Black Dog Institute.

I figure the very least I could do is walk 50km and raise a little money for them. If you feel so inclined to donate, click this link or on the image above to make it happen.
While the walking doesn’t officially start until October, Winston the Wonder Poodle has been at me to get going! So we have been doing a few regular walks around the neighbourhood and the big lake at the bottom of our street.
It is funny how much clarity going for a walk brings. At times when Warwick’s brain is full, it is a great way to simply be present.
I leave my phone at home, I listen to the world around me, I say hello to anyone we walk past, and just consider the world around me. Sometimes my brain starts to fill again, and I try and let it pass and get back to thinking about the walk and my buddy Winston.
What about you?
Do you get clarity when you go for a walk?
When you go for a walk, what is your routine?
One Foot Forward at a time I will achieve my 50km. Like all the things in life we try to achieve, just putting one foot forward or simply starting with one small piece is the best way to start. The momentum can only grow from there.

When it comes to diversity and inclusion as a leader you need to understand one thing, you need to understand that; It is more than just activism, minorities vs the privileged, and correcting the injustices I’ve observed the efforts of many organizations and leaders when it comes to diversity, equity, and inclusion, to be more […]
Last month Renias and I helped a game reserve start a leopard habituation project in the Waterberg and here is my MESSAGE FROM A WILDEBEEST. A Tracker Academy project to track, find and form relationships with leopards. For the benefit of ecotourism lodges in the area. During the day we tracked leopards. In the evenings, […]
I am as outraged as you are when I heard the news of the violent death of Uyinene Mrwetyana in September last year, the heartbreak and the anguish felt physically unbearable. I was overwhelmed by grief and outrage. I was consumed with terror for our daughters. As I started to catch my breath and look […]
Don’t you just love when prospects ask you that question? – What Makes You Different? If you recognize the question as the true trap that it is, and you know how to deal with it, then you love it. If you don’t treat that question as the trap that it is, you’re toast. For […]
I once saw a cartoon meme that really caught my attention. A Father was chatting to his son. He was explaining the difference between being interested in success at school versus being committed to success at school. So Are You a Chicken, or a Pig? “Take your breakfast as an example, my boy,” the Father […]
Not all exercises are created equal. My grandfather, or gramps as we affectionately called him was a disciplined exercise man. It wasn’t so much the amount of exercise he did but rather the 100% commitment with which he did it. He never missed a day unless he was ill and flat on his back. Every […]
Few months ago, I was supposed to go somewhere with someone and realized What Drives You. We’d agreed to meet at a particular spot but I was trying to renegotiate our meeting place so I can avoid having to take multiple local taxies. And so this person exclaim in total shock…and said, “Nicky, you mean […]
The most common question I am asked when I identify myself as a mountaineer is “Why take on a challenge?” From my education as a life coach, I’ve learnt that the neurology (the brain) doesn’t like the question “Why” very much – in fact the neurological reaction is to defend, justify or shut down. This […]
