Self-investment is the first step in your resilience journey

I want you to think about investing in yourself as your most important work. The work that feeds your mind, body and soul, to support your purpose, as you navigate the ups and downs and change of life.

When we have continually filled our resilience reserve, we become Change Proof. And the single most life-changing difference between someone who is Change Proof and someone who isn’t, is this: we are no longer a victim to the inevitable change of life.

Of course you still experience the constant change that is part of life, and you still must navigate said change. But Change Proof people seem to navigate change with an assurance that no matter what happens, they will not only be fine, but they will grow.

The Most Important Thing You Can Do To Become More Resilient

It Starts with YOU!

Resilience is no kept secret. Every single one of us can access our own resilience, build it up and use it to live a more purposeful life. But how do you get there?

Investing in yourself is the first step in your resilience journey. Investing in yourself is not transactional – it is a lifelong practice of ritual, habit and love.

There’s so much we can do, starting right now, where we are, with what we have, to invest in ourselves.

Taking Care of Your Body

One thing I recently wrote about is how important physical movement is to our overall well-being. Exercise has been shown as one of the most effective ways to boost our mood while increasing resilience – especially when things are stressful. The times we don’t want to get up and move the most, are usually the times we really need to.

When we get over that hump and go for it, we add a little more to our resilience tank each time. Because we are actively taking control of our thoughts and what we do with them in the physical form.

Daily Resilience Rituals

I know, I know. I can’t express enough how important it is to be intentional about your thoughts and your day before you ever start it – and when we carry that intentionality with us throughout our day, with rituals of self love and self care, we grow in our power to sustain all of life’s changes.

“I love my life” before my feet ever hit the floor, expressing gratitude on purpose – as often as possible, these small rituals change our thoughts. When we change our thoughts, we impact our actions. And when we impact our actions, we grow our resilience.

Connecting to Your Bigger Picture

Before any job or career, degree or promotion, your most important purpose is yourself. The more in tune you are with your internal purpose, the more you will see that purpose comes to life on the outside.

We often get this backwards, investing in every level-up that comes our way, with the hopes of that dream life. But when we start with the inside, the bigger picture will reveal itself and so will the steps.

Embracing Uncertainty

Sometimes life seems like it might be easier if we had all of the answers right now. But there is so much to love in the unknown, if we are open to seeing and experiencing life in this way. Resilient people take life head on, because they know that no matter what happens, they will be better than good.

They welcome change and new paths because they are resilient enough to explore the uncertainty, strong enough to withstand it and brave enough to use it.

Remember, when we take time out to invest in ourselves – even in these small ways – we are feeding our souls. We are empowering our minds and fueling our bodies. So when change comes knocking, we are standing in a place that is firm enough that we don’t cower to stress or uncertainty. Doesn’t that sound awesome?!

When we have continually filled our resilience reserve, we become Change Proof. And the single most life-changing difference between someone who is Change Proof and someone who isn’t, is this: we are no longer a victim to the inevitable change of life.
