There are several reasons why individuals or organizations might choose to use a Speaker Bureau instead of booking keynote speakers directly.

Here are a few key advantages of working with a Speaker Bureau:

Extensive Speaker Network: Speaker Bureau typically have a broad network of speakers, including industry experts, thought leaders, celebrities, and motivational speakers. They have established relationships with these speakers and can offer a diverse range of options to meet different event requirements.

Expertise and Guidance: Speaker agencies have specialized knowledge and experience in the industry. They understand the nuances of different speaking engagements and can provide valuable guidance in selecting the most suitable speaker for a particular event. They can help match the speaker’s expertise, style, and message to the specific objectives and audience of an event.

Time and Effort Savings: Booking keynote speakers directly can be a time-consuming process. Researching potential speakers, contacting them individually, negotiating fees, and managing logistics can be challenging and time-consuming. A Speaker Bureau streamlines this process by acting as a central point of contact, handling the speaker selection, negotiation, and event logistics, saving you valuable time and effort.

Professionalism and Reliability: Speaker Bureau often have established relationships with speakers, which means they can vouch for their professionalism and reliability. They can provide references and testimonials, ensuring that you work with speakers who have a proven track record of delivering high-quality presentations.

Flexibility and Backup Options: In the event that a speaker becomes unavailable due to unforeseen circumstances, such as illness or scheduling conflicts, speaker agencies can quickly offer alternative options from their roster. They have access to a wide pool of speakers who can fill in on short notice, ensuring that your event goes smoothly without any disruptions.

Contract and Legal Assistance: Speaker agencies can help with the contractual and legal aspects of booking a speaker. They can provide agreements, ensure that terms and conditions are clearly defined, and help protect both parties’ interests.

While booking a keynote speaker directly may work well in some cases, utilizing a Speaker Bureau offers a range of benefits that can simplify the process, enhance the quality of your event, and provide peace of mind.

While it is relatively rare for keynote speakers to not show up or deliver a poor performance, there have been instances where such situations have occurred.

Yes, just in the last 12 months we have had 5 occasions of speakers doing this from South Africa, we have not had this from European or North American keynote speakers. The most common reason we had was a poor performance and where this one female speaker in particular lost us a client because of her behaviour and not performing to the brief she agreed to.

Here are a few examples:

Scheduling Conflicts: Keynote speakers may have busy schedules, and sometimes conflicts can arise that prevent them from attending an event. This can happen due to unexpected travel delays, personal emergencies, or other unforeseen circumstances.

Illness or Health Issues: Speakers, like anyone else, can fall ill or experience health issues that prevent them from fulfilling their speaking engagements. In such cases, they may need to cancel or reschedule their appearance, causing inconvenience to the event organizers.

Technical or Logistics Problems: Occasionally, speakers may encounter technical issues at the event venue that hinder their ability to deliver their presentation effectively. For example, if the audio-visual equipment malfunctions or there are connectivity problems, it can negatively impact the speaker’s performance.

Lack of Preparation: While most professional speakers invest significant time and effort in preparing for their presentations, there can be instances where a speaker fails to adequately prepare. This can result in a subpar performance, where the speaker appears unorganized, unengaged, or delivers a speech that lacks coherence or relevance.

Mismatched Expectations: Sometimes, there can be a disconnect between the expectations of the event organizers and the actual performance of the speaker. For example, if a speaker fails to tailor their content to the specific audience or doesn’t align with the event theme, it can lead to disappointment and dissatisfaction.

Lack of Chemistry or Audience Engagement: A successful keynote speaker not only delivers valuable content but also engages and connects with the audience. However, there can be instances where a speaker fails to establish a rapport or fails to capture the audience’s attention, resulting in a lackluster experience for attendees.

It’s important to note that these instances are relatively uncommon, and most professional speakers strive to deliver exceptional performances. However, by working with a reputable Speaker Bureau, you can minimize the risk of encountering such situations, as agencies typically vet speakers, have established relationships, and can offer backup options if necessary.
