Having lived to share her story, Malala Yousafzai is now the co-founder of the Malala Fund and a female motivational speaker who empowers other women to stand up for their rights.
The Pakistani Taliban have long limited girls education, having destroyed countless schools and shut schools specifically for girls. On the 9th of October 2012, Malala was on her way home after sitting an exam when a Taliban gunman shot her and another girl due to their activism for female education.
After initial treatment at the Rawalpindi Institute of Cardiology, Malala was transferred to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham where she made a recovery and rose to international fame for her passions for equality.
Since recovery, Malala was able to attend school at the Edgbaston High School and completed studies in Philosophy, Politics and Economics at Lady Margaret Hall, University of Oxford. Malala Yousafzai has also become the youngest recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize– accepting the 2014 Nobel Peace Prize for struggles against suppression and the rights for children’s education.
She has also claimed awards such as the National Youth Peace Prize, the Anne Frank Award for Moral Courage and the International Children’s Peace Prize.
Named as one of the 100 Most Influential People in the World and one of the 150 Most Influential Female Leaders in the UK, Malala is now a popular choice as a female motivational speaker for events.
Having previously spoken at TED events, such as An Optimistic Look at the Future of Girls’ Education, Malala Yousafzai is a seasoned speaker who empowers women to stand up for their rights.
