Hayley Warren Definition Of Success | Success meant making money when I started out. How much you could make seemed to be important. But this is not at all how I view success today. Success is who you have built to be around you; your friends, family, loved ones and the connections you have with them. Without these people in your life success is hard to ascertain and maintain. Success is being able to contribute, being asked to contribute, changing lives through what you have to give and being able to spend time with your loved ones. Do anything for the right reason, wealth and happiness inevitably follow.
I Am Driven By | My drive comes from wanting to do good in this world, wanting to make a difference and most of all wanting to help people. What I do now is all about helping people in health and making healthcare accessible to every single person, no matter where they are in the world. After losing the closest person in my life this drove me to get up every day and make the most of what the day held. I caught the “life is too short bug” in my early 20’s because of this event. I still have this bug, it is alive and well, I use it every day as motivation. Drive for what you truly believe in, whether that’s a business product, service or person comes naturally, you will do anything for what you believe in and others see this, they get inspired and will help you drive what it is you’re passionate about.
The Difference Between Good And Great | Without doubt this is consistency. What you do most of the time is what you become. Do the extra things others do not do consistently and you’ll be great. Staying when times get difficult, finding ways through the tough times is what great people do. Great people are persistent. By extra things, we are talking that extra few percent, talking to that extra person. Great people, making a great difference and change believe in what they do. They live and practice a state of certainty.
A Key Talent | Listening to my gut in everything I do has been critical to my success. Intuition or my gut feel drives my decisions, in business and personally. It is the only way to decide what is truly right for you. In who is right for me to work with or to have in my team or to which deal to finalise. Tuning into my intuition, listening to this gut feel, is the only way to make decisions that serve you well. It took me years to get this right, it’s subtle. It is the first skill they should teach every single person, early in life so people make the right choices, often and from an early age.
I can’t sit still for long, so long mediations don’t work for me, it does for others. A short 2 -10 minute guided mediation does the trick. I do this every night. It settles my thoughts from a busy day. I do this by sitting in a quiet space, listening to my breathing. I would then ask myself (in my mind, not out aloud) a question I need answered, and I listen to the answer. Then I will act on it. To get you started there are great podcasts available for great guided mediations, often free.
Finding a quiet space for 10 minutes a day costs nothing and this is available to everyone. Find what works for you, everyone is different, so you may also find this your morning run is where this practice could start, it’s up to you. Start today, you will find the decisions you make using this practice will be the right ones for you. Oprah doesn’t have a purpose-built mediation room in her home for nothing.
The Characteristics Of Success | I am bold, I am passionate about what I do, I listen to people, I listen to my intuition, I surround myself with great people. I believe that to be different you need to be comfortable stepping away from the crowd, you need to be comfortable in your own skin to do this well.
Practice being ok with who you are today, be yourself and see what you can achieve in this state. I take calculated risks because I believe it what I do; in helping people, creating new technology, in new ideas and systems. I am in no way perfect, far from it, but what I am is enough. Being myself all the time, helps me make the right decisions and helps me achieve what I put my thoughts to.
Principles I Live By | Honesty, Integrity and Equality. Be good to others, people deserve your best care. Listen to everyone, everyone has a story.
Lessons I Have Learnt | Did you know that to fail is ok. It’s not that you failed that matters it is how you get back up from that event that counts. I remember sitting in the office at University with both the Dean and Head of School, it was a serious meeting, I was crying (and I never cry), I had failed my semester. I had really made a mess of my grades and my whole Physiotherapy career that I had been set on for years was about to go, and it did go.
I was unable to continue studying. Hard then to hear, but with time and perspective, knowing that without that single event I would not be in this position today. Whereby I sell my own Physiotherapy device to millions of therapists across the globe, helping elite athletes get better results, helping Physio’s to make their delivery to patients superior. It’s what you do after you fail that people remember, get up from it, learn, don’t do it again.
Make your next move count.
Dealing With Doubt | Sure I have times of doubt in my life but I recognize when it’s there and I fix it so it doesn’t affect what I do. I use visual boards to remind me of why I am doing what I do. I carry an app on my phone that I use daily. It’s a collection of pictures/words that remind me what I am moving towards.
All the greats do this in some form. How else are we expected to be in a constant state where we can excel, grow and make great things happen? When I need to step into a room of people to talk or to pitch to people for the business, this still makes me nervous. Every time in this situation I remind myself that no-one knows the business like I do, I remind myself why I am doing what I am doing. This then allows people to see, feel and believe in what I deliver.
The Best Advice I’ve Received | Spend your time working on what you are passionate about in life. It will feel right, your energy for it will be through the roof and you will excel in it. Find what you love and spend your life doing it. Taught to me by Sir Richard Branson.
I Am Inspired By | Richard Branson, Nathan Buzza, Peter Warren, Janine Allis, Maggie Dent and my best friend Brenda Loecker. All doing what they love, leading in what they are passionate about and who have taught me how to do the same.
The Legacy I Would Like To Leave | I would like to have contributed to leaving the world with a healthcare system that enables access to healthcare in an equal way, no matter how far from care they live or how much that care costs. People deserve the best care. Every single person deserves this. Removing barriers to create healthcare equality is what I hope to help with.
