We’ve recently been on an investment drive to raise massive capital for our product, Lohocla and the number we are gunning for is rather massive relative to what we were thinking years ago and as such we Earn Your Stripes,
The funny thing is that the people we are contacting today are the very same people we were in contact with 3 or 4 years ago when we got all the no’s.
I couldn’t understand back then why everyone was saying no because I knew we had a good product, but the truth of the matter is that we needed to Earn Your Stripes yet and hadn’t accrued half the amount of traction we have accrued today.
It really comes down to filling your place, being able to outgrow where you are while you are looking at where you’re trying go.
Most people get frustrated by things happening slow or not happening, but what I’ve learnt is that there is no substitute for process, what you want to do will take as long as it requires and no more or less than that.
Your task is to do all that you can with what you can and win with that.
You must learn to do great things in a small place, so you can be promoted to do great things in a great place.
Now that I know what I know, I can definitely demand the numbers we are demanding because we are looking to solidify South Africa and enter global markets, and this is because we have earned our stripes, and this is what I want to leave you with today.
Nobody is going to invest in your idea until you can prove that you’ve put all that you can into your idea and they can see the benefit for themselves. It will always be a transaction of giving and receiving.
Earn your stripes. Don’t be a gimmick.

Defining great brand values: Five practical pointers A surprising number of brands have values that are about as useful as a chocolate fireguard. Seriously. They do. Unfortunately, this only becomes apparent when brands try to bring their values to life via the experiences they want to build. Things grind to a halt because their brand […]
Siphiwe Moyo’s new book, called “Your Next Move” hits the shelves this week. Career Strategies to Survive and Thrive During Covid-19 and Beyond. As we all think about our responses to COVID-19, we have to try both offence and defence career strategies to survive. In other words, you need to try and hold on to […]
Over the last four weeks, I’ve elaborated on what I call the Closing the Loop with Cycle of Listening. This consists of: Step 1: Recognizing the Unsaid – Unspoken things in your culture’s organization to recognize that your people aren’t telling their entire truth. Step 2: Seeking to Understand – Leaning in to understand someone’s perspective and […]
Me to My Husband, Bill: Bill – look! My phone is blowing UP with all these stories about people getting this flesh-eating bacteria from getting into the ocean! Bill: You’re kidding. (Not even breaking stride in his email checking) Me: It’s true! It’s right here. A man who’s about to lose his arm. A 12-year old who is about […]
Leadership Hack: How Sticky Notes Can Help Your Career Sticky notes have been my savior. And I don’t mean in a “don’t forget the milk” kind of way. True, sticky notes are great for grocery lists, but what I’m talking about here is how a few small squares helped me become a better leader, and […]
Go ahead and search ‘happy employees lead to successful companies’ and you will be bombarded with consistent uplifting messages about employees and happiness (LinkedIn, Fast Company, Business Insider, Fortune). Just about every content piece promotes employee happiness benefiting organizations at large. That is why, contrary to consistent media, I couldn’t believe that Phil Rosenzweig in The Halo Effect completely disagreed. With […]
I’ve been studying growth lately — human Growth Through Discomfort — and the most common models out there seem to be a bit misleading. Or, at the very least, incomplete. You’ve probably seen something that looks like this: It plays up the purely positive aspects of growth without at least an acknowledgment of the discomfort […]
