Regular Mindfulness Practice, Meditation and Benefits
Forget about the incense making you feel all balmy…
I want to share with you some of the scientific evidence of the benefits of Regular Mindfulness Practice (*)
Results from fMRI scans after 8 weeks of Regular Mindfulness Practices training…
Intervention studies have been carried out that specifically look at what happens to the brains of people who practise approximately 20 or 30 minutes of mindfulness most days.
Important differences have been observed in their brains:
1. They have a thicker cortex (that’s the outer shell of the brain). This is of enormous benefit, as increasing cortical thickness even by a fraction of a millimetre makes a huge difference in brain ability.
2. Those who have meditated for lengthy periods of time have a measurably thicker prefrontal cortex. This is the area behind the forehead. These prefrontal brain regions help regulate attention, emotion, and actions.
3. They also have thicker cortex in the insula, a part of the brain that helps us tune into ourselves and also tune into the emotions of other people.
4. They have measurably thicker cortex in the area of the hippocampus, a part of the brain that puts things into perspective and also reduces both the activity and size of the amygdala, leading to increased resilience and reduced reactivity.
5. Also, after an 8-week mindfulness course participants were found to have a stronger immune system.
6. Another finding was that meditators have greater activation of the left prefrontal cortex which decreases negative emotions.
7. Brain wave activity in the very important gamma range substantially increased. These brain waves are associated with greater learning from life experiences and also a greater sense of integration and wholeness.
8. Meditators have also been found to have preserved telomeres, which are strips of atoms at the very ends of the chromosomes that protect us against age related illnesses of various kinds.

With all the recent fervor over the confrontation between Will Smith and Chris Rock at the Oscars® over a comment made about Jada Pinkett Smith, there’s one character I have yet to see explored in the aftermath to change your perspective: G.I. Jane. Several years ago, when I was building my business as a […]
It’s not every day Leaders Can Build Relationships Through Transparency or you see a CEO dancing on TikTok. But being vulnerable and transparent is one of the reasons Ali Bonar has seen incredible growth and success with her company, Oat Haus. Consumers are moving more towards sharing real experiences and less about hiding behind the perfect […]
We’ve recently been on an investment drive to raise massive capital for our product, Lohocla and the number we are gunning for is rather massive relative to what we were thinking years ago and as such we Earn Your Stripes, The funny thing is that the people we are contacting today are the very same […]
I had a recent team meeting where I brought our Caring Inclusive Listening Leadership coaches together to discuss an idea regarding the community. The call ended up going in an entirely different direction, but ended up in an amazing place. As the conversation grew, many strong opinions came forth on all sides, but I trusted each of them […]
As a keynote speaker on the topics of leadership, connection, resilience, and relationships, I’ve been spending a lot of time thinking about Choose Compassion Over Empathy over the past year and Why Leaders Must Choose Compassion Over Empathy. In fact, in my virtual presentations on personal connection, I quickly became aware of the buzzwords associated […]
My South Africa was not supposed to be a hit. Ingrid Jones contacted me late on a Sunday night to explain the concept and to urge me to do a ‘quick one’ for an inflight magazine. I did the piece in less than an hour and went to sleep. Next thing I heard was that […]
When I started in sales and Social Selling, I had to visit 8 clients physically, every single day. No jokes! In our wildest dreams we could not have imagined a tool like email, never mind social media and Building Relationships Online. Social media has created so many incredible opportunities for us, and it is about […]
